‘Sniff Test’ to Measure Degradation of Old Books

The goal of the ‘Sniff Test’ is to measure the degradation of old books, and therefore to preserve them in proper ways.
Most people may not pay special attention to the musty taste released by books, but the scientists have proved 15 chemicals contained in that smell would help us a lot to deduce the age of a book. The method, claimed the researchers, is also applicable to historical artifacts.
