2009071002

Simplicity is the main character we have seen from the innovative OLED clock. Totally four OLED figures included, each of them is powered by an independent energy source and control panel. And when the evening falls, the most exciting thing happens. The clock displaying black numbers during the day time then shows the time with white figures, allowing you a convenient use in the dark. And that is based on the embedded luminance sensor, indeed. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Casio EX-G1: The world’s slimmest shock-resistant digital camera

2009112033

Not to be too excited with the Casio’s G-Shock branded watch released in 1983, the EX-G1 is a too-solid gadget that claims to be water-resistant, dust-resistant and shock-resistant. Several related experiments here will let you learn more about the EX-G1. Nothing goes wrong when it falls from 7ft (2.13m). It is also waterproof and freeze-proof, which means that the camera also works at a depth of up to 10ft (3m) below the water for an hour, withstanding temperatures as low as 14°F (-10°C). More amazingly, the 12.1MP camera also features an interval shooting function and a high speed continuous shutter. Only 19.9mm wide, convenient to carry. It is expected to be on the market in December. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Fade-Out Chair

2009111932

“What you hear may be false, but what you see is true”, the famous adage has been passed down from one generation to another, but is that really true? You should take a skeptical attitude. Look at the chair; it’s floating in the air, but it’s an illusion. Actually, the chair is no different with regular ones except the transparent parts of its four legs.

Start a green life with ‘Boo bag’

2009111808

Bamboo is a kind of plant that could adapt to different climates. Generally, it could be harvested every five years, greatly saving the energy input. With the growing shortage of conventional building materials, bamboo is now considered as an ideal replacement of cement and wood. Far more than that, even the bag designers have adopted bamboo as a new material. The ‘Boo Bag’, made of highly sustainable bamboo fabric, is a most popular design during the “Green Life Competition” held in Korea. Not only eco-friendly and energy-saving, the bamboo also doubles a handle for an easy grip when you use the bag. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Esquire magazine to release augmented reality edition

2009111821

Firstly adopted by Tom Caudell in the early 1990s, ‘augmented reality’ has finally reached the December edition of men’s magazine Esquire. After experimenting with things like origami (May edition) and e-ink (October 2008 edition), this time, Esquire will invite the readers to interact with the magazine via a PC. A C++ application is needed to recognize a black and white patterned marker on the printed page and then translate it into a video sequence enhanced by 3D animation on the computer screen. For more details, you’ll have to check them out for yourself.

Video after the break. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Spy Scope

2009111931

Resembling a pen, the 6〞x 5/8〞apparatus hides a telescope and a magnifier within the two ends of the device that not only protects the lens, but also creates an ordinary pen look. When you think about it, the design is actually rather brilliant! On one end, there’s a telescope for seeing far away while on the other end is a microscope for checking things up close. Granted, for the price of just over $5, you could buy a cheap pen. [Read the rest of this entry...]
