Rain Brush Umbrella By Liu Hsiang-Ling

200912087001

Recently I’ve been hearing much about modern umbrellas, or more exactly, modern umbrellas with a traditional meaning. Designed with a paint-brush like tip, the Rain Brush Umbrella by Liu Hsiang-Ling will turn boring rainy days into funny drawing days. Just fold the umbrella up, dip it into a rain puddle, you can then draw a picture with water on the ground. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Melody Balloon

200912086001

Liberate your hands! That’s not a female emancipation’s slogan, but actually what a player asks you to do. Thanks to the finger ring that comes along, the Melody Balloon could be easily controlled while it flies in the air when you’re listening to the music. Isn’t that funny? Imagine a young girl comes to you, accompanied by a flying player…That’s so cool! [Read the rest of this entry...]

What couldn’t a potato do?

200912085001

What couldn’t be artistic, if the most common potatoes have been turned into art works? Via a series of portraitures painted on potatoes, the Japanese designer successfully shows us various aspects of human life.

“Why facial expressions are drawn on potatoes”, the designer explained, “is because potatoes seem to be striking similar to human faces. Not only potatoes have uneven skins, and like us, they have different sizes, shapes and forms.” Amazing! [Read the rest of this entry...]

Let the moonstones guide you in the night!

200912084001

Designer by the name of Yichun Chuang poetically brings out the relationship between the stones and the road. Appearing in the Seoul Green Project, the so-called ‘Luna Piedra’ (which means moonstone in Spanish) has drawn much attention, as they look extraordinarily beautiful, giving out soft and splendid light in the night. Moreover, equipped with a tiny nano generator, these OLED stones also generate power by water currents, without heating up the water or resulting any pollution. [Read the rest of this entry...]

200912081001

Russians and Japanese astronauts must have loved beer too much that they decided to grow some barley and make some brew. They call that ‘Space Beer’, which has come to us humans on the earth. Japan’s Sapporo Breweries plans to sell six packs of ‘Space Beer’ to merely 250 people in 2010, costing $115-a-pack or about $19-a-bottle. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Artificial meat has been developed in a laboratory for the first time

74639522

Will you buy artificial meat (usually described as soggy pork) if it is on sale, I mean, the meat looks and may taste the same as pork, while is not produced by pigs? Well, researchers from Netherlands will be much interested in your answers, as they’re now investigating ways to improve the muscle tissue of the artificial meat which was produced in laboratory for the first time, so as to make it a replacement to real pork. Backed by the Dutch government and a sausage maker, the project is believed to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions by animals and to meet people’s high need for meat. But how could we distinguish artificial flesh from real pork? That’s a widely-concerned problem needed to be answered.

Orangin Citrus Squeezer by Jaren Goh

2009120327

It’s an orange/citrus squeezer, but not a fruit juicer that accepts any fruit. Yes, merely for orange and citrus. Why, you may ask, the squeezer is not suitable to other kinds of fruit like mango, watermelon or apple? Its unique constructer may be the main reason. As you can see from the pictures, the Orangin Citrus Squeezer works in more or less the same way as a hand-crank pencil sharpener, and the machine produces juice by constantly squeezing the fruit. But only orange juice is enough for me, I love it! [Read the rest of this entry...]

DIY Net-enabled Cat Feeder

2009120326

Possibly no feeder on the market is good enough to take care of Mathew Newton’s cat, so finally the British man decided to DIY a cat feeder and he succeeded! The new cat feeder is actually a motor-driven cereal dispenser controlled by signal from port status LEDs equipped on a Cisco switch. As a result, even if you’re far away from your kitty, you can still feed it via a web interface. Great! Those who also love pets may follow Mathew Newton’s example, and try to invent more devices all by yourselves. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Solar-powered Hat and Gloves

2009120306

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could keep our heads and hands warm relying on the nature energy rather than electric power? After all, the nature is the original of everything, certainly including us human beings. Yiran Qian’s ‘Endless Warm’ concept is easy to understand. The new hats and gloves will be powered by solar energy to keep us warm and comfortable, therefore to save the limited electricity and mineral energy. Does that really work? We won’t get a sure answer before the products really come to us. [Read the rest of this entry...]
