Air Umbrella by Je Sung Park

Idea, Rain Gears

Air Umbrella is not a real product but a concept that uses a sheet of steady air as the canopy! It features a hollow stick which absorbs in and blows out air to form a barrier between you and the raindrops. And the better point is that, the size of the air canopy could be easily changed to meet your different needs through a simple work. Isn’t that magic? After the thing gets real, not only we’ll change the way to use an umbrella, but the definition of the word ‘umbrella’ may be changed, too.

very interesting indeed. make sure air outlet blows the rain UPWARDS…consider walking beside many people in the city street

Take this idea a bit further and what about this design and apply it to a larger item such as a house or car – not saying that is possible but an interesting thought.

I want one….and I think it might be amusing to blow water onto passersby!

umbrella’s take no energy other than that of your arm. energy needed to create adequate pressure enough to disperse water droplets falling at their terminal velocity would be HUGE, you would end up creating a mist around you that would get you wet also.
use an umbrella, it works great.
and for larger items, we have tent’s/tarp’s , why would anyone wants something that creates such a huge air disturbance?
(imagine a bunch of helicopters around your house, your neighbour’s would very quickly oppose

OK where do I see one. Or where do I Buy one. And what is the Price??

Can you say noise pollution? Something tells me that a “canopy of air” strong enough to repel falling rain doesn’t come without its downside.
February 5th, 2010 at 7:48 am
will never work…the air would needs lot of power to get that fast…and if it was that fast could be dangerous for humans…
