Five pairs of them, as Naim’s “Melonia” collection, were showcased during the Stockholm Fashion Show this month. Possibly nobody could figure out why the Yale mechanical engineering students designed the weird bike with a spokeless rear wheel, as that didn’t help to improve the bikes. Actually, the answer is quite simple: they designed it just because ‘it looks cool’. It changed the regular structure and mechanical properties of the conventional bikes, employing a drive cog that meshes with a planetary gear on the rim to drive the bike forward.
