Rain Gears

Rain Drum, a recent work from a South Korea-based designer Dong Min Park, has been very popular on the Internet, and deemed as “an interesting amusement for boring rainy days”. The shade of the umbrella is made up of five different wax cloths, to imitate the different frequency of the hi-hat, crash, tom-tom, bass and snare. So next time you’re in the rain with such an umbrella, you’ll surely experience something new and enjoyable.

May 7th, 2010 at 8:08 am

May 7th, 2010 at 10:26 am
Where can I buy this?
May 8th, 2010 at 1:59 am
Can I close this umbrella by any chance?
May 11th, 2010 at 11:33 am
Snare drum, tom tom, crash?? That must be very noisy, why not relaxing notes from a beautiful 9th chord or something like that?
May 12th, 2010 at 9:16 pm
I want one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 14th, 2010 at 10:09 pm
Surely if its raining, all the drums wound play constantly?
May 23rd, 2010 at 5:36 pm
This is stupid, just make differently sized, tight drum heads instead of some electronic crap. It would actually work.
May 25th, 2010 at 8:33 pm
Awesome! Very creative! I want one too!
May 31st, 2010 at 2:16 pm
anybody else notice that it’s raining doom on that girl’s head??
yes, i’m being facetious
June 2nd, 2010 at 2:15 am
How mch will it cost me? Can I fold that? where can I buy that stuff?
June 2nd, 2010 at 2:19 am
Where can I buy dis? Is it foldable? How much?
June 6th, 2010 at 3:17 am
No offense, but you need to pick some different sounds. That would be like having a hyperactive 6 year old drumming next to you every whenever it rains. You’d basically be trolling the shit out of everyone around you, and losing your mind at the same time.
June 7th, 2010 at 9:24 pm
You guys are fucking spoiled rotten. This is some high tech shit. and you’re worried about closing it and noise. If I could I’d buy this umbrella and follow you each around during a thunderstorm. It’s genius. GOOD WORK INVENTORS, keep em comin.

this seems like a totally horrible idea after about say 5 seconds..
June 8th, 2010 at 3:40 pm
its a good idea, but if its noticeably raining then there would be too many raindrops for it to be enjoyable.. instead of “doom dadoom doom” itd be more like “doomCRASHtingtangDOOMDONGPSHHTANG”
June 9th, 2010 at 8:45 pm
Wow, that must be very noisy. Imagine if 6 out of 10 people owns this, rain would be pretty loud and mostly annoying even for people who doesn’t have this umbrella
June 10th, 2010 at 2:00 am
awesome…. i love totally different and cool idea like this one… will definitely try to get one .
June 13th, 2010 at 11:59 am
“Hello
May 23rd, 2010 at 5:36 pm

They never said it was eletronics. In fact, they say… “The shade of the umbrella is made up of five different wax cloths”
You don’t have to get all up in arms against this inventive design just because YOU didn’t make it first. So long as it is a light rain, I think this thing would be fun to run around with.
June 13th, 2010 at 11:05 pm
obviously rain falls in a rhythmic pattern.
use your head designers…. it looks more like a 5 year olds play thing instead of an adults umbrella
June 17th, 2010 at 6:31 pm
Look, totally worth it, great idea, every single person who is there to make negative critics must know this, there is no perfect umbrella and it will never be, best thing to do is not to worry about it and have fun coming up with creative ideas such as this one. Congratulations for your atitute.
June 27th, 2010 at 3:20 am
this is great. how hilarious would it be to strut down the street with this umbrella making a racket. you would obviously NEED to close it somehow. otherwise it’s not much of an umbrella if you can’t go anywhere with it.
June 28th, 2010 at 1:29 am
Great, a musical umbrella to warn us all of impending ‘doom, DOOM, doom, DOOM, doom, doom.’
Anyone else find it funny that of all letters to be used to represent percussion, the artist went with this one? Perhaps, as a few have noted above, after about the first 5 seconds of using this umbrella, life would be pretty bleak.
June 28th, 2010 at 7:12 am
Uh.. I wouln’t like this if I had a headache.
June 30th, 2010 at 1:38 am
what if its lightning …. obviously theres some sort of wires in there to make the different sounds of the drum … such as the snar and stuff…. is it completly save in lightning
June 30th, 2010 at 9:10 pm
“obviously theres some sort of wires in there”
How is that obvious?
You do of course realize drums work by having a sheet of material stretched out to a certain length so it makes a noise set to a certain frequency, right? “Obviously” that’s how this would work as well.
I’m not trying to be a smart ass but for the love of God why does everyone think this has to be an electronic appliance? Does no one even know how a fucking drum works?
July 1st, 2010 at 5:28 am
I love how some of you people are SO stupid that you cannot bear to attempt to actually READ what has been published. You’ve evidently looked at the pictures and went ‘It must be electronic’
Stop being stupid all your damn lives and get an education. It’s pathetic.
July 2nd, 2010 at 2:46 pm
Video please.
July 5th, 2010 at 5:23 pm
Awesome, but it would’ve been much more awesome if it was called DRUMBRELLA
July 6th, 2010 at 7:14 pm

July 7th, 2010 at 11:05 pm

July 9th, 2010 at 7:50 pm
awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 10th, 2010 at 1:53 pm
I would think that hooking midi drums up on your umbrella is interesting, but not in any way practical. batteries, weight, non foldable, probably fun for the first 10 minutes, then want to mute the thing. I don’t want to piss on the parade, but I would probably punch the guy who had one just because he would be stuck in downtown and all you would do is create a distraction all day. how fun would that be. Well, at least i’m not ADD and need attention to walk down the street.
July 10th, 2010 at 10:55 pm
I’d like to see you fold that up
July 13th, 2010 at 11:56 am
If any of you are concerned with it looking like a childs toy, you obviously are not enjoying life.
July 16th, 2010 at 8:25 am
the bassdrum should be switched with the crash cymbal. that’s WAY too much crash cymbal and not nearly enough bassdrum!
July 25th, 2010 at 8:04 pm
I love its simplistic nature, NO WIRES NO BATTERIES NO ELECTRONICS and yet still a interesting design, for all you TECH HEADS out there that look at it and think its an electronic drum Frumps to you, its just simplistic nature + a stick. stretching cloth over circles has never been so entertaining, now i shall have to make one… as for the colors… yea needs a palette swap.. and yes more bass, but still amazing.
August 17th, 2010 at 4:42 pm
WHAT!!!! i totally want one! however created this, i want to kiss ‘em!
September 12th, 2010 at 7:24 am
How can I get one?
September 18th, 2010 at 6:15 pm
DRUMBRELLA! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 2nd, 2010 at 10:04 am
This is AWESOME!!!!!
November 23rd, 2010 at 4:11 pm
To explain, because of the sizes of the individual drums, they play a certain amount. I.e. The bass drum plays less, the hi-hat more, therefore making it pleasant to hear rather than just a cacaphony of loud noises.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:38 am
this is great! It doesn’t have to be electric at all and you could eliminate cymbals sounds and just make them different toned drums – would sound like someone or a few people playing the bongos / djembe drums! SWEET!!
February 17th, 2011 at 11:55 am
Should be called a ‘Drumbrella’…
October 19th, 2011 at 7:15 pm
I want this because of reasons.
October 29th, 2011 at 5:47 pm
DRUMBRELLA! genious!
