Constrained Ball

20100814401

It’ll be the smartest tool in your pencil boxes. To draw straight lines, locate the “Constrained Ball” at the tip of the pen, move the drawing aid and then done! So with this writing tool, everybody can draw straight lines without the help of a ruler. But that’s not all, as the tool is also equipped with a measuring wheel that allows the users to draw desired line length in three directions—horizontal, vertical and 45-degree angle. Toshiba’s Wipe Technology

20100814301

Toshiba recently announced the world’s first “Wipe” technology that can automatically wipe sensitive data from self-encrypting drives when a system is powered down or the HDD is removed from the system. By that means, your data will get effectively protected. But the technology cannot really wipe the data, but actually invalidates the security key used to encrypt the stored user data. To users of printers and photocopiers that have storage devices on board, the “Wipe” technology is quite worth waiting for, and they’ll soon see Toshiba’s first product—2.5″ 7200rpm SED HDD model on the market.

Wise Hammer

20100814201

Where should we drill, most people asked that same question whenever they needed to drive in a nail. No matter what methods you’ve ever used, we bet the Wise Hammer will offer you a new choice. To find a suitable spot, you simply need to place the butt of the handle against a wall and keep moving it until you see the red light flash. Easy as that! [Read the rest of this entry...]

‘leaf-it’ Memo Pads By Sangwoo Nam

20100814101

When we were still a child, we used to put the maple leaves or ginkgo leaves between pages of a book and they were possibly the first kind of bookmarks we’ve ever met. Today, Korean designer Sangwoo Nam is still using leaves as bookmarks. However, they’re not real ones from trees, but simply feature the same shapes and colors of leaves. Even so, these artificial leaves are indeed beautiful and vivid, giving us aesthetic satisfaction. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Motion-controlled Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robots

20100813401

No doubt the Wii players have influenced many people, and everyday there’re new players getting crazy with the fascinating interactive game. And maybe that’s why more and more designers have come to develop new interactive games, just as it did in the case of Zachery Shivers and Anne Flinchbaugh who have created a motion-controlled version of Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robots. Its key ingredient is TI’s accelerometer-equipped Chronos watch, which can translate the players’ actual punches into rock ‘em sock ‘em punches. For more details, you can hit up the source link and the video after the jump. What’s this?

20100813301

Seemingly like a cool helmet for young boys, have you gotten what the gadget actually is? Leave you comments if you’re sure (or not sure) with your guess. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Melted Food As Seat Servers

20100813201

You know something is really disgusting, such as  melting ice cream, brown coffee that has spilled from the cups as well as forks coated with cream. But on the other hand, they’re also surprisingly useful to keep your table waiting for you when you return. So for students who usually have to study hard in a crowded classroom, this is really a nice idea. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Radiator Chair

20100813101

Do we need a radiator to keep our ass warm in the cold winter? You may think that’s a stupid question, but the Dutch designer Jeroen Wesselink does think it’s necessary to make himself a Radiator Chair. And he has created one using discarded radiators. It’s welded to get the shape of zig-zag chair and still features an interface letting heat pass through to warm your back and ass. [Read the rest of this entry...]

LED Mushroom Lights

20100812301

A withered tree comes to life again. That Chinese idiom suddenly struck me the first time I saw these cute LED mushrooms growing on the ugly wood blocks. Created by a Japan based company using reclaimed wood and LED lights, these shining mushrooms are available in various patterns and we bet each of them will give your gardens and living rooms a new look. You’ll find these LED Mushrooms indeed look better than they were on the screen when you buy them home. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Poo-powered VW Beetle Is On The Road!

20100812201

Unless you’ve left home without your glasses, you’ll no doubt find the Poo-powered VW Beetle running through the streets of Bristol and get impressed with the eye-catching slogan on its smart body which says that “(The car is) Powered by your waste”! Powered by methane gas that is generated during the sewage treatment process, the new VW Beetle is announced as a “breakthrough in the drive to encourage sustainable power”, when many other automakers are also developing new sources of energy to take the place of regular motor petrol. But will the “Bio-Bug” perform as well as petrol-powered cars? Of course it can. It is reported that the new Beetle’s maximum speed is 114 m/h, and it would travel 10,000 miles every year if 70 homes in Bristol provide waste to power it. [Read the rest of this entry...]

In Out Bottle For Sugar

20100812101

Despite that I’m one of those people who try to keep everything highly organized, I always leave my kitchen in a mess whenever I cook. You see, salt and sugar is spilled everywhere when I try to refill the condiment bottles. Thankfully Yan-Ting Chen and Hsin Yeh have created a way to prevent sugar spilling onto tables. Just push down its lid and the In Out Bottle will reveal incorporated funnels for refilling sugar. Do you think the idea will catch on? Perhaps, as it’s already an IDEA Design 2010 winner. Connecticut-based artist Dalton Ghetti must have great skill in sharpening a pencil, as he has hand-carved these awesome sculptures using razor blades, sewing needles, sculpting knives and rich imagination. Of course these mini pencil sculptures have also cost Dalton Ghetti much time and energy, for example, he has spent over two years on only the heart sculpture. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Magic Mini World

20100811101

We’ll all live in a different world, in a neurotic fairy-tale world full of mini-sized furniture and items as those Alice has seen in Wonderland. Because designer Robert Therrien has already created some really huge tables, chairs and dishes that are about three times as big as usual ones. So do you like them? [Read the rest of this entry...]
