Heat Water With A Light Bulb

Tea Sets

Designed by Estelle Sauvage, a graduate from Ecole Nationale supérieure d’Art et de Design de Saint-Etienne, the new kettle can heat water to 90°C using a light bulb. But of course the bulb is not directly placed into the water! Mounted on a wooden base, the incandescent bulb is actually separated from water by the recess of the glass jug for safety.

Assuming it contains 1.0 litres and the lamp is 100 Watts it would take about one hour to reach 90°. It is less efficient than using a regular kettle as there will be higher heat loss due to the time taken to boil.

Still, you don’t have to wait. If that is what you mean. I think it was designed to have light as the primary function. the heated water gives it the added value. Next to the very slick design.
I would love to have one.
