Socks Portrait

Not quite long after her Coffee Stain Portrait of Chinese musician Jay Chou, Shanghai-based artist Hong Yi now shows us another artwork that uses 750 pairs of socks to portrait the famous Chinese film director Yimou Zhang. Hong Yi said her idea of the Sock Portrait firstly came from clotheslines made of bamboo sticks hanging various articles of clothing above narrow paths in Shanghai, and then she noticed that Yimou Zhang once incorporated bamboo sticks into his period films too, thus she decided to make a portrait of Zhang merely using socks and bamboo sticks.
