The blue water in sea, which absorbs the red part of the solar spectrum, has long time been a reason why we couldn’t have solar-powered submarines. But recently, the Naval Research Lab has released a new type of solar cell that can work underwater. The new technology focuses on making the solar cell to absorb blue and green part s of the spectrum, which are not sucked up by the water. And the result is quite amazing, as the new cell can even get energized 30 feet underwater.
