Almost every time before I start my happy journey, I have to painfully struggle with my large quantity of clothes and other stuff by jamming them in my smart suitcase… That sucks! So when I firstly saw the Pumpack, a vacuum-packed suitcase that includes a pump to compress clothes, I really couldn’t wait to imagine how easy packaging would be if I got this. Very practical concept and no wonder it has become a 2011 red dot design concept winner.

Check 1-2 is rightly the all-in-one self-service check device I’ve been dreaming of for years, but the concept is actually put forward by designer Adrian Taylor. Based on Wi-Fi, touchscreen tablets and other technologies, the digital check device allows users to easily split the bill, pay for specific items, or charge the entire bill with a single swipe of their credit cards. After payment, the customer can even request an email receipt that may include a coupon or alternative return incentive. As an additional bonus, Check 1-2 also support non card-based payment methods like PayPal, thus to offer the users with much more convenience.

With several years spent on observing southeastern Australia’s Murray Darling basin, the Swinburne University of Technology student Edward Linnacre has created a low-tech device to solve the problem of water-lack in arid climates. His idea is the Airdrop, which collects moisture from the air and then store water under the ground for use. The results turned out good, and in his initial prototype Linnacre produced about a liter of water in one day. Also due to Airdrop‘s wonderful performance, the device now brings to Linnacre this year’s James Dyson Award. Congratulations.
