FLEXI: Multifunctional LED Lights

20100325101

Nobody would refuse a trip around the world, but the premise is to have enough money and also a lightweight backpack. Otherwise, you’ll walk with a slow dragging motion…So why not replace the big torch with the FLEXI lightweight LED lights? As a collaborative work of Kyeore Kim, Jaesuk Han, Sungkuk Hong and Sena Joo, the flexible light is made out of a thin rectangular silicon pad, with a powerful but energy-efficient LED lights on the edge. It can be rolled up into different shapes, to serve as a directional light or a flashlight when needed. But in most conditions, the kids prefer to make it open like a sheet and use it as an ambient illumination. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Intersection Signalétique: Traffic Lights, Road Decoration and Billboards

20100323301

We’ve no idea why the ‘Intersection Signalétique’ was primarily designed, acting as traffic lights, road decoration or billboards? But who would really care? I mean, the concept behind the project is quite fantastic! The system, as an experimental prototype, has already been installed on the intersection between two major streets in Montreal. Several projectors were placed on towers to project lights onto the roads, reminding the pedestrians to cross or stop in time. Though its functionality still remains to be proved, the system sounds especially practical to those passers who prefer to walk with their heads bent down. To help you pass the time easily while waiting for the green lights, some advertisements will also be shown on the street. [Read the rest of this entry...]

By installing LED lights inside the recyclable plastic pegs, designer Natalia Romanova has come up with a new kind of light equipment, the ‘Light Peg’. Or you can simply leave them on the tree, to create a unique and romantic decoration for your living rooms. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Energy-saving Multitap & Ambient Lights

20100304101

Although named as the “Saving Energy Multitap”, the strip actually won’t directly reduce your electricity cost, but helps you to develop a good habit of unplugging the unused gadgets from the strip so as to save the energy. It sucks up the energy wasted by the unplugged devices and uses it in a rational way—to power the touch-sensitive ambient lights on the wall. The main task of the ambient lights is to remind you to switch off those unplugged gadgets if you no longer use them. As for the ambient lights, they could also be turned on or off via simple tapping. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Saint Clair Lamp

20100301501

Solar-powered lamps are not that new to us, but the Saint Clair Lamp presented here still surprises us on account of its unique way to get charged. Just as you can see, the lamp needs to be affixed onto the window with the suction pads to obtain energy, since the photovoltaic cells are built at its base. When the dark night comes, the lamp can then be used as a hanging lamp to illuminate your room. Designed by Stéphane Maupin, the innovative lamp has won one of the five VIA project assistance grants this year. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Cosmonaut Lamp

20100118801

We’ve seen a lot of funny lamp concepts, but the Cosmonaut Lamp may be the least elegant one. It’s a lamp with a bulb on its head and looks like an astronaut ready to land on space. The wildest part about the lamp is that it uses fewer wires but mainly polymer clay instead. And inspired by the Cosmonaut Lamp, the designers may come up with more clay lamps that are shaped like a puppy, an E.T. or something else. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Jumping Light

20100114201

Since most of us prefer jumping rope to lose weight, why don’t we make use of the kinetic energy generated during that process? The Jumping Light is just a torchlight which is equipped within the skipping rope handle and powered by the electric energy converted from the power produced while you jump the rope. Though rather simple, that’s really a wonderful idea to recycle the energy. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Pigtail Lamp

20100113801

Who will leave those ugly spiral-shaped energy-saving lamps directly in the air since they have had a hard time designing and fixing their houses? At least I won’t. But after you see the Pigtail Lamp showed here, you may change that opinion and would love to get some home. The designer tactfully associated the ESL’s spiral shape with the pigtail, and finally came up with these lovely lamps. It’s really attractive.

‘Push on the light’ to illuminate the night.

20100112501

The only association between light and switch is that we use the switch to turn on/off the light. That’s totally right but Sungi Kim also believes that the switch itself could doubles a light. And that’s the main concept behind the innovative design ‘Push on the light’. It looks just like a simple switch for most of the time, but it will then work as a light when you push on the short end of it. Amazing! [Read the rest of this entry...]

Dew Lamp

Glowing Tea Bags

201001061001

Let there be no misunderstanding, so I would like to make a clarification first that these tea bags are not ordinary tea bags for making tea but actually an interesting sort of lamps. It still has something in common with traditional tea bags, that is, it won’t work unless you put it into a cup filled with water. Romantic? I think so, and maybe next time you drop into a restaurant, you will find they’re using these Glowing Tea Bags to take the place of candles.

Puppy Bulbs

20100106801

Who said that bulbs could only be shaped like pears? The designers didn’t agree with that at all, and they have tried to bring us around to their views by releasing the innovative set of bulbs. Puppies, flowers and bubbles, anything they believed interesting has been adopted to create an ornamental bulb. No need of lampshades and such bulbs are great enough to dress up your room. A Bowl of Light

20100105801

Rice is a basic foodstuff for hundreds of millions people all around the world, especially the Asians. And during the dinning time, you’ll always find them hold a bowl of rice in their hands. For the Asians, a bowl of rice is not merely foodstuff to keep them alive but also a symbol of fulfillment that encourages them to work harder and harder.

Possibly inspired by that, Lo, Yu-Fen has designed the ‘Harvest’ light for Yii Collection. Shaped like a porcelain bowl with delicate patterns on its surface and tiny bits of light inside it, the decorative light is surely to bring a great change to your home. If possible, I’d like to get some home. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Icon Lamp

Kutch Lantern

20091230301

You need a lantern not merely because you want it to light up the dark room, but also because you would find some fun with it. An interesting, beautiful, but also practical product has been something that every designer hopes to attain, and certainly Charles Jones is amongst them. And he succeeded. The Kutch Lantern is a lighting device which could be turned on when you squeeze its body (which is squeezable of course) or spin the rotary dial at its base, and that’s totally different from other lanterns on the market. How do you like it? Let me know then. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Pendant lamps with interesting shadows

200912291001
If you’ve fed up with ordinary pendant lamps and need something special and interesting, you’re sure to love this lamp designed by Hyuh Jin Lee. The idea behind it is quite simple. Light Recycler

20091229101

Since some lights like the floor lamps, chandeliers are designed in a big size with an intense and bright light, while others are designed to be small dots or power indicators with weak and limited light, there must have been certain reasons. So why, you may ask, is the item here designed for? Actually, I don’t know why, either. But believed by the designers, the ‘Light Recycler’ will enhance the light intensity of those tiny dots, making them serve as needed lighting systems and therefore save certain energy. Whether you appreciate or not, that’s really a creative idea which has greatly inspired us. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Giant Chinese Lantern
