What can one AA battery do? Although there’re many answers to that question, the most surprising one in fact comes from the Las Vegas’ CES, during which XPAL Power launched its SpareOne mobile phone and announced that the SpareOne can work for 15 years simply relying on one AA battery. The compact cellphone is mainly designed for phone calls, thus it doesn’t come with so many functions as other mobiles do. But that on the other hand makes it really ideal and suitable for outdoor adventurists who want to stay in contact, but without the worry of losing a more valuable device.

Despite smartphones’ outstanding functions and large screens, perhaps you still find it not exciting enough to watch films or play games with them? Yes, we all need a device with larger screen, such as the LightPad developed by QP Optoelectronics. It’s a folio-styled peripheral that combines a keyboard with an 11-inch rear projection screen. Once connected to your smartphone, the device’s built-in projector can then light up the screen with a resolution of 854 x 480 (the first generation) or 1280 x 720 resolution (the second generation), offering you a more fantastic experience with larger screens. If that’s still not big enough, the device can even create a 60-inch display on the wall with its built-in projector flipped around. So do you like it? The LightPad is expected to be exhibited next month at CES 2012.

Aha, iPhone accessories again. This time it is a sturdy clip that can attach onto your iPhones so as to allow you to hang your mobiles on bags or necks. Certainly it’s much stronger than a cellphone clipping cord, because the gadget is screwed directly into your phone instead of being fastened onto it. Never worry about that the clip may result in some inconvenience, as the gadget can let you charge phones without removing it.

With everything, such as the cellphones and the tablet, turns to become much thinner and lighter than before, the accessories made for them is gonna in the same trend too. From Giesecke & Devrient, the new nano-SIM now comes with a smaller size, measuring merely 12mm x 9mm, which is 60 percent smaller than the classic model. Still, the new SIM is 15% thinner too. That’s quite exciting news as we may soon get everything thin and lightweight. But is that a good thing? I don’t know.

You don’t have a Windows Phone?! Hmm, apparently the Microsoft Company thought you should have been using their products and they unveiled a 55 feet high Windows Phone at NYC’s Herald Square recently, to let you know and use their products. It is announced “the World’s Largest Windows Phone”, comprised of control rooms, display stages and decorative tiles too. Whenever the phone is demonstrating its perfect functions such as music or game, several people would then appear on the stage and offer a live show. Really impressive, how I wish I could be there!

It utilizes a smartphone’s inbuilt motion sensors to detect a free-fall calamity, sends emergency signal to a separate protective sleeve, and then lets out an airbag to protect your phone. The idea is quite amazing, but hopefully its price won’t be surprising.

Researchers from Queen’s University in Kingston have invented a thinnest cellphone we’ve ever met. It looks no thinner than a credit card and features a good flexibility that allows the users to bend it in various ways. Moreover, as you bend it, you’re actually controlling the phone: making a corner to bookmark a page or flipping the corner to get a new page. Really amazing and possibly such “bend gestures” method will be an overwhelming trend of the future too.

Japan often brings us with new telecom products and concepts and this time some designers from this eastern country have come up with a prototype that resembles a human body.

It is a collaborative work between Osaka University, the mobile telephone operator NTT DoCoMo and other institutes. Via such a design, the researchers aim to make “the mobile phone feel like the person you are talking to” and they proudly described their gadget as a “revolutionary telecom medium”. It is indeed innovative, coming with an outer coating that feels like human skin, installed with a microphone in the head, and featuring a light-emitting chest that will change its color when in different modes. According to the researchers, this cellphone may come into commercial production.

Celsius X VI II treasures every moment as much as you do. That’s why the French company designed and built mechanical cellphone, a $300,000 device that combines a transparent cellphone with a delicate mechanical watch.

“We want to take the useful functions of the cell phone and try to re-think them, and re-create them in a mechanical way,” Celsius co-founder Alejandro Ricart explained. Thus the mechanical cellphone is believed to make much more sense than ordinary mobiles because it also doubles as a timepiece.

Anyone interested in the mechanical cellphone is suggested to take his/her chance since there’re only 46 pieces all over the world. Be sure not to miss it.

It is good to preview what the world would be like 10 or 20 years later, and all that is founded on the development of technology. But imaginations go faster, and the Pen Concept Mobile Phone here just gives us a chance to know what our cellular phones look like in the future.

It is comprised of three pens that act as the keyboard of the handset and a stretchable touch panel (which works as a display) hidden between two pens. Although one of the three pens could be used independently to write on the display, almost everything is based on voice control.

We’re not sure when it is available, but if you’ve been looking for a similar phone like this, then the Pen Concept Mobile Phone is rightly the one for you. Leave your comments below if you think it is a cool-looking cellular phones.

The conceptual cellphone from Nokia is achieved by a young Chinese designer, Daizi Zheng. Different from usual mobiles powered by lithium battery, the eco-friendly phone adopts bio battery (which generates electricity from carbohydrates) as the power source. Therefore you only need to buy a can of cola to power your phone when the battery dies out, and claimed by Daizi Zheng, “Bio battery has the potential to operate three to four times longer on a single charge than conventional lithium batteries”. So it would be nice to see this practical concept hit the marketplace soon.

This so-called Zumba phone is claimed to be the first fully hands-free mobile phone. It is as small as a credit card and the real phone part is located at the back of the “credit card”. All the functions are controlled by your voice. In addition to this hands-free advantage, it seems that this phone is pretty secure as well. Since all the information is stored on a website called “Zumba Lumba”, even if someone get your phone they will not be able to control it.

The video from BBC will give you more details.
