RydeSafe Reflective Bike Decals is a project launched by Anthony Clune via the funding website Kickstarter recently. Similar to other common bike stickers, the RydeSafe Decals will give out attractive light in the night to alert passengers, car drivers or other bike riders of the existence of your bike. Besides, the decals also come as a DIY kit and hence it would let you personalize your bike and accessories based on your own interest and desire.

It is always good to preview what the bicycles would be like in the next few years, even though the designs may be quite surprising, just like the Dreamslide Bike created by French enthusiast Jean‐Marc Gobillard. Having no seat, Dreamslide features a single-speed drive train propelled by pedals that work independently and therefore constant power will be generated as the two pedals keep spinning. And to make a stroke, the riders simply need to move the back foot forward and lift slightly when moving the front foot back. So to sum up, if you don’t mind a standing ride, Dreamslide will surely be the best bike you can ever have.

For years turn signals have been protecting cars and car drivers, but now Lee Myung Su is making headway in creating a clever solution for cyclists’ safety. The SEIL (Safe Enjoy Interact Light) bag concept features an LED-equipped backpack that is controlled by a detachable wireless remote to let others on the road know when you’d like to make a turn or brakes, so as to reduce the possibility of crashes. Really a nice idea and I just wonder if the concept can also be used for pedestrians so that more and more people can be kept from the accidents.

It is true that the big-wheeled bicycle seems quite odd at the first sight, but you may find it a genius design if you spend a few more seconds. Compared with most folding bikes, the Full Circle uses big wheels to achieve easier navigation but features no chain to make folding the bike an easier task.

When there were no wires or chains, humans used to bind things together or hold something in position with ivy. But when the same ivy is used today, it is deemed as a decorative accessory rather than a tool. Designed by Sono Mocci for ‘Seoul Cycle Design Competition 2010′, the new lock for bikes comes with a green and fresh look, and it appears the same as real ivy you’ll find in the nature. Hopefully ducks and chicks wouldn’t mistake that as their meals… Just for kidding.

We’re on the same earth and we’re facing the same unpleasant issue of population explosion, which has forced us to make the utmost possible use of the limited space. To solve that problem, Hyuk-Jae Chang puts forward the Ville Urban Folding Bicycle Concept. The vehicle, though named as a bike, can also be transformed into a shopping cart via simple folding. As a result, you can directly take the Ville into the grocery after you get there on the bicycle.

It is reported that the Ville has won the Bronze Prize at IDEA Design Awards 2010. Congratulations, Hyuk-Jae Chang!

You need an electrical bicycle? You need a lightweight bicycle? You still need an eco-friendly bicycle? Well, what you want is rightly the Carbon Fiber Electric Bike by Ralf Kittmann. The concept bike adopts the carbon fiber—which is highly conductive—to take the place of wires as a power distribution network. So when the electricity is generated from the special electric installation built inside the frame, it will be transferred to power the motors between the rims and the lights. That energy will also be used to drive the system to turn the wheel, by using a counter-turning axel in lieu of gears and chains.

“Made of plastic” is not the only characteristic of the Izzy Plastic Urban Bike, a collaborative project between Omer Sagiv and Uri Sadeh. One would expect a fragile vehicle but the bike is actually quite firm to bear the weight of two adults. Best of all, its frame is recyclable, which means that you can have the damaged frame replaced at the store. To top off the cool concept, the bike also incorporates 2 free standing locking systems, three-dimensional illumination, and the integrated rear suspension.

But does the “completely plastic design” also means the bikes could be easily burned to ashes? Hopefully not.

Look! This new electric bike seems like a slab. It generates the power from a Lithium-ion Battery, which is always used by electric cars, to make the bike work much longer. When driven by electricity, the bike sets both of the pedals at the low position, which is a suitable position for riders. Moreover, it holds a compartment for the rider to store his/her portable gadgets, such as laptop, cellphone, iPod and more. The most interesting point is that, when connected to your laptop (stored in the compartment), the bike would access to the internet and show you the route through the integrated upfront screen.

Possibly nobody could figure out why the Yale mechanical engineering students designed the weird bike with a spokeless rear wheel, as that didn’t help to improve the bikes. Actually, the answer is quite simple: they designed it just because ‘it looks cool’. It changed the regular structure and mechanical properties of the conventional bikes, employing a drive cog that meshes with a planetary gear on the rim to drive the bike forward.

The ‘Wirebike’  is an interesting bike from Polish designer Michal Gorzynski. It works in a similar way as the rowing boat, asking the bikers to keep pushing their legs to move the bike forward. To ensure you a comfortable riding, the adjustable bike also features a sliding seat that continuously moves as the rider pushes and pulls his/her legs.

The ‘Marguerite Bike Parking’ designed by Yoann Henry Yvon Lopez may be the most poetic bike stand we’ve ever come across. It consists of several white movable parts that are described as “an array of petals swaying along with the breeze” when used to stabilize the bike. Moreover, the innovative form also means little space occupying and an elegant parking.

You love the bicycle, right? Sadly it is only an interesting concept issued by Peugeot. Anyhow, it still attracts everyone, due to its simple and elegant design. Not only that, the “B1K” bicycle will also change the way you ride a bike as it doesn’t have the handlebar. So if you’re to ride “B1K”, you’ll have to be in an upside position. The bike is made from carbon fiber and features a chainless drivetrain. Using a tension cable to connect the seat and the head tube, the designer also ensures the bike not to be easily broken when it is on the move.

I’m sure some of you already had this idea but designer Martin Angelov beat you all to it with a detailed and seemingly practical concept. It is an elevated bike lane hailed as ‘Kolelinia’. Apart from the track to support your tires, there’s also a guy wire to attach your bicycle at the handlebar level, so as to ensure you a safer riding.

But there’s no more information about how many bikes the lane could bear at one time or how the user could get on to the track. So it is an exciting concept still needing to be further tested and improved.
