Launched by Japan-based Panasonic, this is the world’s first LED bulb that uses clear glass to show the light source. It features a single filament, coming with a power of 4.4 watts while lasting for over 40,000 hours. Requiring no time to get prepared, the bulb offers 100% of the light once you switch it on, and thus quite ideal for public places like the stairs and toilets. As a bonus, the bulb is announced to get a high efficiency, even remaining high lumen of 70% at end of life.

The bulb received the gold award in the “Japan Good Design Award 2011″.

It also has another name “Tag-it!” The idea behind the memopad is quite simple but interesting: for days a bulb that emits beams of light has become the dominant image for gleams of inspirations, and therefore such a memo pad was created for you to write down your best ideas. But apart from the bulb shape, the “Tag-it!” actually has a real soft light that you can switch on by pulling the label on side, to enlight the place where you can take a note. Designed by Estelle Sauvage, a graduate from Ecole Nationale supérieure d’Art et de Design de Saint-Etienne, the new kettle can heat water to 90°C using a light bulb. But of course the bulb is not directly placed into the water! Mounted on a wooden base, the incandescent bulb is actually separated from water by the recess of the glass jug for safety.

Compared with ordinary bulbs, the new one can distribute light in all directions, but costing less energy. It consumes 9-W of energy, amounting to a 77% savings compared to 40-W incandescent. It is also said that the LED bulb can last up to 17 years, if you use it 4 hours per day. The GE will launch it sometime early 2011 at a price of $40 to $50.

Who said that bulbs could only be shaped like pears? The designers didn’t agree with that at all, and they have tried to bring us around to their views by releasing the innovative set of bulbs. Puppies, flowers and bubbles, anything they believed interesting has been adopted to create an ornamental bulb. No need of lampshades and such bulbs are great enough to dress up your room.

Designed by Korean designer Joonhuyn Kim, the volum of the flat bulb is 1/3 smaller. Although it can reduce the cost of packaging and transport, its target is apparently not for that. It was showed on 100% design Tokyo.
