Carbon Fiber Electric Bike

20100319201

You need an electrical bicycle? You need a lightweight bicycle? You still need an eco-friendly bicycle? Well, what you want is rightly the Carbon Fiber Electric Bike by Ralf Kittmann. The concept bike adopts the carbon fiber—which is highly conductive—to take the place of wires as a power distribution network. So when the electricity is generated from the special electric installation built inside the frame, it will be transferred to power the motors between the rims and the lights. That energy will also be used to drive the system to turn the wheel, by using a counter-turning axel in lieu of gears and chains. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Futuristic skyscrapers will capture the rainwater.

20100317201

Everybody knows clearly that daily consumption of water could be recycled by rainwater, which could then be purified and used again to meet our daily needs of pure water. But the problem is: we seldom know how to ‘harvest’ and recycle rainwater effectively. Possibly the ‘Capture The Rain’ skyscraper will show us a new way. The concept building features a special roof to collect as much rainwater as it possible, as well as reservoirs under the roof to store large amounts of water. Apart from meeting its inhabitants’ daily need, rainwater collected by the skyscraper will also be stored in reservoir under the building for other uses. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Sprout Pen Concept

20100311401

May it have you feel disappointed or not, I’d still like to declare that the ‘Sprout’ Pen is merely a concept from Igor Lobanov before we start the topic. But it’s really a refreshing idea, featuring a housed plant in the bulk. The containment plant lives on the ink, which means you will see the plant inflate and change color from yellow to vibrate green as the pen sits in the inkwell and takes in the ink. Memory Drops for Tracing your Items

20100310501

Memory Drops—as its name implies—is something designed for guiding the users to find items easily. It works more or less in the same way as the navigation systems, but using the sound rather than images. What you have to do is to stick the small drops onto your items, and press the button on the keychain-shaped device to make your belongings sound when you’re looking for them. Wind Up Socket by Dongwon Joo & Jieun Choi

20100310301

I am the kind of person who seldom remembers to unplug the devices when they’re fully charged, so you can imagine how much I’ve paid to the electric power bureau. But the Wind Up Socket, featuring an integrated timer, may change that. All you have to do is to rotate the plug to set the duration. And the socket will then cut off the power automatically, as the time passes by. For forgetful guys like you and me, the socket is really the best choice. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Corner’s Communication Warning Sign

20100308301

Surely no one would mind bumping into the other person if they fortuitously found their Mr. Right or Ms. Right. But who knows whether or not the God is playing a trick on you? So my suggestion is: you should be careful enough when rushing around the corner, or simply pay attention to the Corner’s Communication Warning Sign. Designed by Sanghoon Lee, the corner sign could sense the sound emitted by someone approaching around and then light up to warn the other guys. That’s especially ideal for public places like the hospitals, restaurants and offices, where a large number of people walk around frequently. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Izzy Plastic Urban Bike Concept

20100308101

“Made of plastic” is not the only characteristic of the Izzy Plastic Urban Bike, a collaborative project between Omer Sagiv and Uri Sadeh. One would expect a fragile vehicle but the bike is actually quite firm to bear the weight of two adults. Best of all, its frame is recyclable, which means that you can have the damaged frame replaced at the store. To top off the cool concept, the bike also incorporates 2 free standing locking systems, three-dimensional illumination, and the integrated rear suspension. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Falcon Concept Car Powered with Jet Propelled Engines

20100305401

Welcome to the cool looking Falcon Concept Car. It’s futuristic, it’s magnificent, and most importantly, it’s powered with jet propelled engines. Yups, it’s a perfect combination of the racing car and the aircraft. Allowing an efficient driving on busy urban roads, the engines are also designed to push up the rear end of the vehicle to an upright position. When the engines are turned off, Falcon would rest in a vertical position as the SEGWAY does, taking up less space than conventional vehicles. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Food Creation Concept is a futuristic food printer.

20100305101

What if the kids love all kinds of food? Mhmm… I guess the parents would thank the God again and again…But they should also feel grateful to Philips Design, for the Food Creation Concept they’ve come up with. The concept is intended for giving each kind of food a new look, by mixing various edible ingredients together and ‘printing’ them out in your kids’ desired shape and consistency. For example, carrots could be served as foam and broccoli as ice cream. On the other hand, it also presents the physical/chemical processes (which happen while cooking) in an artistic and modern way. Urban Wheelchair Concept

20100304301

More and more designers are endeavoring to improve the personal urban mobility, including Ben Thorpe with his latest Urban Wheelchair Concept. Made from the highest quality materials, the wheelchair is lightweight enough to ensure the users an easy transportation. It adopts a tightly packed ball bearing system to reduce rolling resistance, greatly increasing its efficiency. Considering the users’ needs to reach for items on high shelves, the concept also features the lifting mechanism, which would lift the user into an upright position. Powered by two Lithium-ion batteries, the Urban Wheelchair is completely rechargeable. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Electric Bike Concept

20100302501

Look! This new electric bike seems like a slab. It generates the power from a Lithium-ion Battery, which is always used by electric cars, to make the bike work much longer. When driven by electricity, the bike sets both of the pedals at the low position, which is a suitable position for riders. Moreover, it holds a compartment for the rider to store his/her portable gadgets, such as laptop, cellphone, iPod and more. The most interesting point is that, when connected to your laptop (stored in the compartment), the bike would access to the internet and show you the route through the integrated upfront screen. Plant Perf shows us a new way to keep fruits and vegetables fresh.

20100225501

What would you do to keep fruits and vegetables fresh? Put them into the refrigerators? Well, that’s really a clever method, but not clever enough. The innovative plant perf concept, not only keeps the fruits and vegetables fresh, but eliminates the harmful chemicals left on their surfaces. The device employs corn starch plastic as its main material, consisting of three parts: the main body, bottle top and nutritious liquid. What the users need to do is to insert the stems of the harvested vegetables into the bottle and lock the top end by pulling it upward. After that, the nutritious liquid will be delivered to the plants to keep them fresh for quite a long period. [Read the rest of this entry...]

City on the Ocean

20100224201

While more and more scientists are doing their best to leave humankind’s footprints on the Moon, some designers have focused their attention on the ocean. The ‘Gyre Seascraper’, also known as a futuristic city on the ocean, is an exciting concept from them. It peaks at a depth of 400m and has the ability to accommodate up to 2000 people.

Featuring a comfortable living, Gyre consists of shops, restaurants, hotels and spaces for recreation. Even better, the concept is totally eco-friendly, obtaining electricity power via employing wind, solar, and tidal energy generation technologies. All the needed water is provided by the purification system at its base. Four 1.25 km long radial arms are built to accommodate the needs of even the world’s largest ships, apart from providing a pedestrian system for the residents. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Outlet Regulator by Conor Klein

20100223501

You could always spare the time to unplug each gadget when you no longer use them? Or you just leave the plugs in and let the electricity leak? But you have another option now. Designed by Conor Klein, the Outlet Regulator could disconnect itself from the power source automatically (just like a real leech) when the device gets fully charged. And that’s why the plug is also named as “Leech Plug”. No idea on whether such a conceptual design will ever see the light of day in the real world, but I really love the idea a lot.
