“To push or to pull?” Almost every time I need to open a door, I ask myself that question. Not because I’m not clever enough, but in fact it is all because the door handles are not clever enough, since they cannot show us the directions clearly. But forget that, as here comes a clever one, “Arrow” door handle that makes “pull” or “push” directions visible to us. Just follow its “arrow”, and you’ll never pull or push a knob in a wrong way.

Because of higher and higher social pressure pushing us forward to survive, we humans are actually suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder, one symptom of which is to ask ourselves repeatedly whether or not we’ve turned off the electricity or locked off the door… Stop that, as our life can become easier, if with the help of Off- Door Handle. It’s a 2011 Red Dot Design Concept winner, allowing users to switch off gas supply and electricity by rotating the dial and flipping it back to activate them. So how do you like the concept?

The ‘Help Lock Doorknob’ by Haishan Deng is designed for ensuring an instant rescue if you stay in the room for too long a time. ‘Help Lock’ asks the users to pre-program a phone number and a time limit the first time you activate it. Once the time runs out, the doorknob will sound for 30 seconds to warn you to get out of the room. But if you don’t switch off the first alarm, the device will then call to the programmed number and open the door automatically for the help. Such a device could be quite ideal for those living with the disabled or elderly folks, who are easier to get hurt when bathing alone.

How many times have you ever realized that you’ve taken home germs and you felt that they’re left on anything you’ve touched with your unwashed hands? Designed by Hung Hyewon, Kang Danbi and Lee Ji-Hye, ‘Fresh Hands’ is a lock system that won’t open unless you’ve entered the correct password and washed your hands with the soap vapor sprayed by the device. To assure your home security, the digital door lock is also equipped with a built-in sensor to recognize your thumbprint. So to keep healthy, we not only need to wash hands before dinners, but to wash them once we come back home. Though that sounds a little boring, I still appreciate the idea, and what about you?

As the door handle is equipped with a number lock, it won’t be unlocked until you roll its tumblers to the correct numbers. In order to protect your possessions from the thieves, it will jumble up the tumblers automatically after your entry.

This door knob can function as a light switch as well and so you do not have to look for light switch in a dark room. When you open the door, the light will automatically light up and switched off as one turns the knob while leaving the room.

This is a brilliant idea. This knob seems like a normal one, but the built-in light can offer light at night and the internal generator can also create and stores energy for illuminating. I guess you will need this in some emergency situations.
