Not only designers, but also the scientists are pursuing things claimed to the “world’s first”, “world’s largest” or “world’s smallest”. However, the researchers are doing that not to set a new Guinness World Record but to make technology serve people better. Put forward by German physicists from University of Stuttgart and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, the world’s smallest heat engine is only a few micrometers wide, almost the same size of a human hair! That’s really incredible, but you can check out the link below for details if you’re interested in the engine.

The greatest thrill you ever get is going on the roller coaster? Of course it is, but next time you can experience another exciting roller coaster that is actually without a roller coaster but some stairs instead! Built in German, the Crouching Tiger and Turtle is a work by sculptors Ulrich Genth and Heike Mutter, allowing people to ascend a height to enjoy a distant view by walking up the roller coaster, which is not the most exciting roller coaster but apparently the safest one.

Milk can build your clothes? German biochemist/fashion designer Anke Domaske says “yes”. The young lady recently received an innovation award from the German Textile Research Association, due to her creation of the hypoallergenic fabric made from sour milk. Quite surprisingly, the fabric is not cheap to make, costing even more than the money spent in producing organic cotton fabric. On the other hand, Domaske’s fabric actually needs only 2 liters of water for 1 kilogram of fabric, compared to more than 10,000 liters of water required to make the same amount of cotton. So what do you think, the money or the water is more important?

Anything will be kept away from bacteria and dirt if they’re covered with merely a 1000th-of-an-inch-thick layer of the stuff. Even better is that the Liquid Glass is also waterproof and resists UV rays. You’ll find the clothes and shoes are much easier to clean if they’re sprayed with Liquid Glass. The Liquid Glass also works as good as the bleaching cream, if you use hot water to clean those items. Best of all, the stuff is totally eco-friendly and results no harm to the environment.

According to ‘The Berg’ website, Berliners are getting down to considering creating a man-made mountain in Berlin, as another tourist-attracting option. Proposed by the German architect Jakob Tigges, the largest man-made mountain will be 1000m tall, and covered with snow on its peak for at least half the year. If that finally come true, a range of activities like skiing, hang-gliding and rock climbing would be available to the Berlins, rightly inside their city. But is the mountain just a hoax or a real opportunity? We may keep a watch on ‘The Berg’ website to find the answer.
