Innovative Interface Designed for Visually-impaired People

With the assistance of devices like Braille typewriters, people who have visual problems are now able to use touchscreens. But we’re still glad to see revolutionary technology that will lead the world to a new age. This innovative interface here is rightly something quite valuable. It is especially designed for the visually-impaired, allowing them to control tablet PCs or mobile phones directly with their fingers. Instead of requiring users to find the right keys, the interface can detect and locate the users’ fingers and then set up a keyboard there. As a result, anywhere the user types in, the letter is then created and stated aloud.

On the Good Design Expo in Tokyo, Japan-based Docomo company built a giant screen to introduce their latest Palette UI interface, something that would improve the navigation between each app on your cellphones by assorting your softwares. Still, the Palette UI is really fantastic, because it would attract butterflies, numbers, and other elements into a cellphone and changes then into colorful stripes. It utilizes an electrical cap worn on the user’s head to capture brainwaves, which will then be transferred to the computer to complete certain commands. Since what you have to do to control your computer is to think, you’ll have your hands and mouth free, and that’s also why the system is believed perfect for hands-impaired people. Skinput: Touchscreen Interface based on your Skin

While most researchers are trying to improve the touchscreen interfaces used on PC, cellphones and MP3 players, Carnegie Mellon University and Microsoft have developed a touch-interface for your skin. That’s really terrific! The ‘Skinput’ includes a micro-sized pico projector, which is embedded in an armband to beam an interface on the skin. But it actually uses an acoustic detector —which would match the sound frequencies with specific skin locations—to recognize which part  you’ve tapped. The revolutionary technology also supports wireless applications like Bluetooth.
