Glowing Tea Bags

201001061001

Let there be no misunderstanding, so I would like to make a clarification first that these tea bags are not ordinary tea bags for making tea but actually an interesting sort of lamps. It still has something in common with traditional tea bags, that is, it won’t work unless you put it into a cup filled with water. Romantic? I think so, and maybe next time you drop into a restaurant, you will find they’re using these Glowing Tea Bags to take the place of candles.

Video after the jump.

Icon Lamp

20100105101

Though I New Idea has introduced a collection of cool lamps already, the so-called ‘Icon’ lamp is definitely a lighting that will swipe all those away. At the first glance, you even couldn’t figure out where the light comes from since both the two halves of lamp don’t serve as a usual lamp at all. Curious about that? Buy it home and check out its secret then. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Kutch Lantern

20091230301

You need a lantern not merely because you want it to light up the dark room, but also because you would find some fun with it. An interesting, beautiful, but also practical product has been something that every designer hopes to attain, and certainly Charles Jones is amongst them. And he succeeded. The Kutch Lantern is a lighting device which could be turned on when you squeeze its body (which is squeezable of course) or spin the rotary dial at its base, and that’s totally different from other lanterns on the market. How do you like it? Let me know then. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Pendant lamps with interesting shadows

200912291001
If you’ve fed up with ordinary pendant lamps and need something special and interesting, you’re sure to love this lamp designed by Hyuh Jin Lee. The idea behind it is quite simple. Just place an OHP film (with certain pictures on it) below the lampshade, the same picture will correspondingly appear on the table surface. Though it’s quite easy an idea, this lamp is believed to bring more fun to your daily life. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Mr. Ed is merely a shelf light that helps you read clearly.

20091228401

To show his respect to the inventor of the incandescent light bulbs, Thomas Edison, Roderik Vos named the lamp here as ‘Mr. Ed’. It is a lamp that comes with two books as its stands, and therefore looks quite different from usual ones. You’ve guessed right, the lamp is merely designed to act as a shelf light that helps you read clearly, rather than a table lamp that suits any conditions. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Giant Chinese Lantern

20091225301

Have you ever seen a lantern bigger than this? Measuring 12 feet wide and 63 inches deep, the Giant Chinese Lantern by Bart Lens is so huge that you can hardly associate it with the word “lantern” or “lamp”. And the point I love most is those paintings inside it (just as the picture below shows), as if the lamp is leading us into a more beautiful world. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Lihamo: a light, a mobile and a hanger

20091221401

Lihamo? That’s too strange a word, and I bet no one knows what it exactly means, except the designer Cho Hyung Suk. Actually, the new product is a set of hanger modules and a piece of metal sheet, which could create a light, a hanger and a mobile as well. Just put the first two letters of those words (light, hanger, mobile) together, you see, it’s the new word ‘Lihamo’. Look at the pictures below, the 40 pieces of hanger modules could make up 5 sets of hanging mobile, which serve as hangers, too. And the metal sheet? Oh, almost forget to tell you, it’s an interesting lampshade. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Lamps aim to bring you with more light, but Katherine Semenko’s lamp does exactly the opposite.

20091217101

Everybody knows clearly why Thomas Alva Edison invented the electric lights, that is, to bring light to the night. If it has not been for the energy-conservation, lamps are generally expected to bring more and more light to our world. However, Katherine Semenko doesn’t think so. A lamp, in his opinion, should give out enough light while not irritating the user’s eyes. And that’s why Katherine Semenko has come up with the interesting new lamp, which provides less lighting than usual ones. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Street Lights that are powered by wind energy.

20091215501

Not that Sungi Kim and Hozin Song are much cleverer than us, but that they’ve noticed something we didn’t pay attention to. It is the wind energy generated as vehicles pass by. And the ‘Road Lights’ is a system designed to capture the wind energy, which is expected to power a series of lights to illuminate 50-100metres in front of the cars. Good work! Criminal Desk Lamp, in memory of Michael Jackson

20091210201

What the ‘King of Pop’ Michael Jackson has left us is far more than the concerts, the music, the dance, or a trend. Seriously, it is his loyalty to art, his constant pursuit of art that we treasure most. And to show our respect to Jackson, designer Maleville has come up with a lamp by the name of “Criminal Desk Lamp” to duplicate Jackson’s dancing gestures. As a result, when turning on the lamp, you can simply tilt down the white hat while lift it up to turn the light off. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Solar Powered panels are supposed to save animals and yourself.

2009120202

The panther is one of the most famous endangered animals in the world and has been long protected in Florida. However, from 1978 to 1994, about 20 panthers met their ends in car accidents; and in 2001, merely in 3 months, 7 panthers were killed by cars when they were running cross the road. Yeah there’s a crying need for more roads, but at the same time the wildlife needs to be preserved. And the Solar Powered panels are therefore designed to protect animals from road-kills. Built with infrared sensors, these panels will detect an animal or a car within the vicinity and then reduce possible dangers either by beaming out subtle blinking LED lights to inform the drivers or illuminating the sideways to warn the animals.

Tree & Root Lamp

2009110707

Not that striking in appearance, the so-called “Tree and Root Lamp” is strikingly attractive for its profound moral. It aims to warn us that too many trees are being cut down and it’s time to pay more attention to the environment. Therefore, the lamp is designed to show the process of cutting down trees in a vividly visual way. When inverted into the pot, the lamp will turn off and signify a dead root. But when not inverted in the pot, the lamp then illuminates your room, symbolizing vitality and energy. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Modern Chong-sa-cho-rongs

In ancient Korea, people used to take ‘Chong-sa-cho-rong’ lantern to welcome guests in the night. And so does ‘Chong-sa-cho-rong’ serve as a lamp when indoors. In modern times, when most people no longer using ‘Chong-sa-cho-rong’, designer Cho hyung suk has redesigned this traditional lantern to make it easily transported. The modern lantern comprises four lamps and a wooden structure that keeps them together, which is therefore much brighter and much solider than traditional ones.

Confront Lamp

2009102132

The Confront Lamp has reminded me of the teeterboard we used to play during our childhood. Still emphasizing an important “balance” concept, Jonghoo Choi is intended to help people “measure the value of light” by this means. But no matter whether or not Confront Lamp would work to call for more attention to energy conservation, it is really attractive for an interesting form.
