Firstly adopted by Tom Caudell in the early 1990s, ‘augmented reality’ has finally reached the December edition of men’s magazine Esquire. After experimenting with things like origami (May edition) and e-ink (October 2008 edition), this time, Esquire will invite the readers to interact with the magazine via a PC. A C++ application is needed to recognize a black and white patterned marker on the printed page and then translate it into a video sequence enhanced by 3D animation on the computer screen. Fantastic! Dubbed as ‘klaps’ stool, the new product allows you to DIY a stool by making a full use of your discarded magazines. Simply place a certain amount of magazines between the two wooden pieces and fasten them with the straps, a stool is then completed. With some small wheels on bottom, the stool is easily portable to carry your magazines anywhere.
This idea is from a Italian magazine. What the reader need to do, except for reading the magazine, is to resolve the puzzle by folding the pages to form the face.
It is not so easy as you think about it.
