Awesome Cut-Out Map Portraits

20110515201

Have you already discovered that these creative portraits are constructed out of discarded street maps, if without the title or the article? It’s really unbelievable. Although the stunning 2D and 3D portraits are made of lines on road maps, they seem to have been built with many blood vessels. [Read the rest of this entry...]

New Zealand Blackboard

20110408301

Nothing would leave us a much deeper impression of New Zealand than this acrylic blackboard. It rightly comes in the shape of New Zealand but looks more vivid than on maps, making it quite fit for educational using. Both liquid pens and chalks can be used. [Read the rest of this entry...]

LED US Map

20101122201

Colorful LED lights have given the US map a new look and actually they’re used to highlight your travels within America. Beautifully framed, the Lighted LED US can effectively interact with the users, allowing them to easily find out how many cities they’ve been to. Really intuitive but pity that we don’t have a LED world map at the present. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Scratch World Map

20100729301

What do you usually do to show others the places you’ve been on holidays? Mark the city with a small flag on the map? Well, I love that idea, but I love the Scratch World Map more. Though seems like quite an ordinary map on the first glance, the map actually will reveal colorful and geographic details when you rub its top layer with a coin. So the more countries you’ve traveled to, the more colorful your map will be! [Read the rest of this entry...]

Soft-Maps Quilts

20100202601

Believe it or not, I found America on my quilt! It is a special gift from my friend, who wants me to learn better about major U.S. cities. Apart from acting as an ordinary quilt to keep you warm, the Soft-Maps Quilt also helps your kids to enrich their geography knowledge. Both a 50×70-inch Soft-Map and a larger 88×96-inch version are available, giving choices to suit your different needs. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Mini-sized World Map

20100112401

It is a decorative part on a microchip and it measures only 40 micrometers across. Even if you observe the item closely, I bet you still couldn’t figure out what it is used for because you can see nothing but a black spot. So what are we to argue? The 1 trillionth scale world map—also the smallest world map—created by the Photonics Research Group of Ghent University in Belgium. If you couldn’t imagine how tiny the map is, you should check out how wide your single hair measures and the map is just half the width of that. Wow, once again the creation makes us want to sing the praises of the great development of high technology.

Which state is the book from?

200912301201

Some people love to arrange their books by the first letters of their names, while someone prefer to classify books into different categories. As for me, I’d love to put those books to the matching states they belong to. So I need a shelving system like this, which is shaped like an American map with every state acts as an individual shelf. Therefore, if you’re looking for certain books, you could quickly find them out if you know clearly which states they’re from.

Light map

Map is a good guider if you just arrive at a strange place. However, light is more important than map at night. So this design provides these two functions at the same time.

It seems like an ordinary map at first glance, but when you scroll the map it is gonna be transformed in to a flashlight. What’s more, the strength of the light can be adjusted by the size of the roll. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Tactile 3D map

A team of researchers from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece have created a system that can convert video into tactile 3D map which could be a navigator of blind people. By touching the 3D space with special finger or wand, the visually impaired people could achieve the real condition of her/his destination. The system can also tell the street name to them using speech synthesis.

In this way, the blind will “read” the map as easily as the sighted people. [Read the rest of this entry...]
