Art is an energy-costing and time-costing work: to finish these Paper Collage portraits, artist Nathalie Boutté has spent much time in splitting old pages of books into strips and then arranging them into remarkable artworks carefully. The process to make each artwork takes really a long time, but the result? Wow, it’s surprisingly good – as you step backward, the painting then gradually becomes much clearer and more charming.

“Challenge” is an important keyword whenever referring to artists, who seem to have been challenging all the time to create something fantastic and fabulous. Max Zorn is an artist that loves “challenge” too, and one of his masterpieces is these portraits made out of packaging tapes. His only tools are rolls of packing tape and a scalpel, but the results are quite astonishing: each portrait features not only multiple shades created through layers of tape strips, but also incredible details that are impressive to the viewers.

Can you believe simply with ordinary thread and nails we can create amazing portraits like these? Completed by Pamela Campagna and her husband Thomas Scheiderbauer, each piece took them nearly a month and inspired by their old photos. I don’t know which word could express my appreciation for their wonderful work… Really well done!

Is there anything cannot be accomplished with paper? As the development of paper art is quickly pushed forward, it’s more difficult to figure out what the paper material cannot do. Shown here is Yulia Brodskaya’s latest work “Babushka”. It may seem quite simple on screen, but in fact each detail is subtly finished with various shapes and colors of paper. Surprise, these amazing portraits are not crafted with pens but with threads and needles?! It is exactly numerous threads running across each other subtly that make these portraits especially exquisite.

Fantastic portraits can be made with almost everything, because anything we’ve seen in daily life would become part of art when they come to the artists. And right here we’d like to introduce you several 3D portraits created by Andrew Myers with nails. To complete every portrait, the designer needs to drive in 8000 to 10000 nails simply with his hands and his imagination, but relies on no hi- tech equipments such as computers. Well, his hard work makes these portraits extraordinarily amazing!

With no paintbrushes but simply his hands, Jorge Rodriguez Gerada has made a gigantic charcoal portrait on the ground for the public to enjoy. Over ten bags of ashes in different colors were scattered onto the ground in an order and thus they managed to form a vivid portrait that surprised almost everyone.

Anything could be changed into an art work when the inspirations occur to the designers. Look at these creative projects, they look like full-color portraits of people from far away, but their true pixel-like nature will be revealed if you walk up to them.
