There’s no waste in the designers’ mind, because anything old and unused can find their new life after redesigned by them with full imagination. These three-dimensional sculptures made out of recycled skateboard decks are rightly good examples. Created by Haroshi, each piece features a delicately distinctive pattern and shining bright colors. Who would believe they’re crafted out of layers of stacked wooden decks, if the designer didn’t tell us the truth?

On a design show held by Triumph Motorcycles and Birmigham Institute of Art and Design, many students brought us with various smart gadgets made out of recycled motorcycle parts.

Every gadget in the collection has a stylish appearance and you’ll find that it is actually alright and good to build household items with handbrake, headlights, instrument panel and other parts of a motorbike.

What would your ideal sled be like, decorated with white and red ribbons just as the one of Mr. Santa‘s, or built with a large wheel just as the one shown here?

Though seems bit of weird on the first sight, the Big Wheel Sled actually performs quite well on snowy road as the big wheel ensures a securer riding while not adding too much weight to the sled, fluorine plastic is built onto the skateboards so as to reduce the friction between the sled and the ground. More importantly, the sled is constructed with old items: its seat is cut from a merry-go-round, its engine was once built in a motorbike, and the gearlever is made of a Coca Cola souvenir. Amazing!

This memopad, coming in a cute shape of a simple house, is made from waste wood collected from many places. Compared with conventional memopads, the Memo House also features a sharp point that ensures us a more convenient use.

New Zealand businessman Peter Lewis has created an innovative machine that can transform discarded plastic like bottles and bags into building blocks. Believe it or not, such bricks can be used to build emergency houses or landscaping walls and they’re more durable than you can imagine, as each brick is comprised of an estimated 10kg (22lbs) of plastic. So you needn’t worry they’ll be blown away by the wind.

Incorporating an ‘accordion-like, honeycomb’ structure, the FlexibleLove Virgin by Chishen Chiu could accommodate a seating for 8 to 16 people at one time. The product line now consists of two different kinds of FlexibleLove, the Earth 8 and the Earth 16. Both of them are made of recycled materials like the recycled paper, recycled wood waste, etc. When given a simple pull at each end, the furniture could be easily transformed into a semicircular or a circular-shaped seating to hold as many as 16 people. But when folded up, it measures merely one tenths of that.

If you’ve gotten too many plastic, metal and other waste materials in your life but still don’t know what to do with them, our suggestion is to create Optimus Prime Replica from them, just as a Taiwanese DIYer has done. Every part of the 14-foot Optimus Prime replica is made from junk, for example, his chest is made from old windows that may be lying in the rubbish bins. Though the replica is not that smart as the one we see in movies, it has successfully encouraged us to make full use of the waste around us.

Charles Seuleusian is quite concerned about the environment and aims to save up energy as possible as he could. His ‘Waste Basket’ is a reusable trash bin made from discarded wooden boards. Every part of the new phone is made from recycled Aluminum; A capacitive sensor is built onto the keyboard to simplify the phone; Electronic ink is adopted to display words so as to save more energy. In addition, the phone also uses silver-zinc batteries rather than the regular lithium batteries, to reduce electronic wastes.

2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games medals, unveiled recently at Vancouver Olympic village, are claimed to be environment-friendly, super-ellipse medals with undulating surfaces — all firsts in Games history. Except the traditional metallic material, CRT, computer parts, circuit boards and other recycled materials are also used to make these medals, which aims to call for more attention to the ecology business. As the medals are also designed to be “substantial”, they weight between 500 and 576 grams each, among the heaviest medals in Olympic Games history.

Honestly, the ’shavings’ stools from Israeli have reminded me of the corks commonly-used in medicine bottles, but they’re certainly not that fragile. To make it both fashionable and firm, Yoav Avinoam has managed to press the sawdust with resin in a mold and combine other parts with it to create a non-waste stool.
