There’s no waste in the designers’ mind, because anything old and unused can find their new life after redesigned by them with full imagination. These three-dimensional sculptures made out of recycled skateboard decks are rightly good examples. Created by Haroshi, each piece features a delicately distinctive pattern and shining bright colors. Who would believe they’re crafted out of layers of stacked wooden decks, if the designer didn’t tell us the truth?

Almost in every part of the world we can find creativity, which now exists in Finland too. There in that country, Miina Akkijyrkka shapes some huge cows using old vehicles. By arranging different parts of cars to become sections of the cows, the artists cleverly created unique metal cows featuring a lovely appearance.

Some materials usually seem so common that we seldom though to make them into something more creative. But this PVC House designed by Hoogte Twee has proved that we should have thought of that, because we may produce really amazing things though with ordinary materials. Yups, the B (h) uis looks very magic!

What would your ideal sled be like, decorated with white and red ribbons just as the one of Mr. Santa‘s, or built with a large wheel just as the one shown here?

Though seems bit of weird on the first sight, the Big Wheel Sled actually performs quite well on snowy road as the big wheel ensures a securer riding while not adding too much weight to the sled, fluorine plastic is built onto the skateboards so as to reduce the friction between the sled and the ground. More importantly, the sled is constructed with old items: its seat is cut from a merry-go-round, its engine was once built in a motorbike, and the gearlever is made of a Coca Cola souvenir. Amazing!

Believe it or not, such bricks can be used to build emergency houses or landscaping walls and they’re more durable than you can imagine, as each brick is comprised of an estimated 10kg (22lbs) of plastic.
Welcome to New York, and we’d like to show you a truly amazing architecture — an art studio made from recycled shipping containers. To make sure that the room will have a good lighting, the designer has built the two containers on top of a foundation wall that measures 2.75meters high. Therefore when standing in the interior, you’ll find the two story studio featuring an atmosphere of spaciousness, also with plenty of sunshine. Good news for those who also want such a perfect container building is that you can contact the Mb Architecture here to make an order now.

Incorporating an ‘accordion-like, honeycomb’ structure, the FlexibleLove Virgin by Chishen Chiu could accommodate a seating for 8 to 16 people at one time. The product line now consists of two different kinds of FlexibleLove, the Earth 8 and the Earth 16. Both of them are made of recycled materials like the recycled paper, recycled wood waste, etc. When given a simple pull at each end, the furniture could be easily transformed into a semicircular or a circular-shaped seating to hold as many as 16 people. But when folded up, it measures merely one tenths of that.

If you’ve gotten too many plastic, metal and other waste materials in your life but still don’t know what to do with them, our suggestion is to create Optimus Prime Replica from them, just as a Taiwanese DIYer has done. Every part of the 14-foot Optimus Prime replica is made from junk, for example, his chest is made from old windows that may be lying in the rubbish bins. Though the replica is not that smart as the one we see in movies, it has successfully encouraged us to make full use of the waste around us.

Creativity is everywhere and Erika Iris Simmons is here to show us a new look of art by creating some portraits with weird stuff. Her first project, which is also Simmons’ favorite work, is a portrait of William Shakespeare made out of the writer’s books. And after that, Simmons has tried to make portraits with other materials and finally come up with some impressive portraits made out of cassette and film tapes. So what are you waiting for? Check out more cassette and film tape portraits after the break.

2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games medals, unveiled recently at Vancouver Olympic village, are claimed to be environment-friendly, super-ellipse medals with undulating surfaces — all firsts in Games history. Except the traditional metallic material, CRT, computer parts, circuit boards and other recycled materials are also used to make these medals, which aims to call for more attention to the ecology business. As the medals are also designed to be “substantial”, they weight between 500 and 576 grams each, among the heaviest medals in Olympic Games history.

Honestly, the ’shavings’ stools from Israeli have reminded me of the corks commonly-used in medicine bottles, but they’re certainly not that fragile. To make it both fashionable and firm, Yoav Avinoam has managed to press the sawdust with resin in a mold and combine other parts with it to create a non-waste stool.

Obviously the design of the gorgeous home decorations that are made of recycled plastic bottles is the best action to the term “recycle”. Lamps, campanulas, chandeliers, etc, a series of dazzling styles have weakened the sharp lines of plastic and ensure the bottle lamps to be exquisite in warm light.
