Yes, the New York City is no more that safe as it may used to be, and thus the NYPD is looking for newer and better methods to make the city much safer, and one of their solutions is this Mobile Scanner that allows the police to spot armed passerby on the street without ever having to get out of a police van. The device is something like the full body scans used in airports, while it is much compacter and portable, also with a wide range of three to four feet. And in the future, the device may be produced with a range of up to 80 feet, which means that it can reach people on the other side of the street easily. So will this make New York safer? Let the time to tell us the answer.

It’s the right time to safeguard your hardware in a more effective way…And one of the new solutions is put forward by Wu Jiang, a Chinese designer who advocates scanning the flash drives to ensure there’s no virus before you connect them to the computers. The name of his design is the “U+ USB Hub and Disk Scanner”, and it will work in tandem with the popular virus protection software to ensure the virus infection doesn’t spread. But at present, it is still a concept, and we may have to wait for years to see the creative gadget on the market.

Do scanners merely turn printed text into digital format? Apparently the answer is no, as the ‘BookReader’ launched by Cerritos, CA-based manufacturer Plustek Technology Inc also reads the book for you. Mainly aiming at visually impaired users who still want to read books, the device not only uses the optical character recognition software to convert printed books or documents into digital formats, but adopts the text-to-speech recognition software to translate them into audio files. So simply put a book page on the scanner, press the button and then you can listen to the page. That’s cool!

The device could scan in three different modes: plain text, a grayscale PDF scan and a color scan.

This technique is safer than normal printer scanner because the pattern is accurate only when the blood is circulating.
