Bass-powered Medical Implants

20120130001

Researchers from the Purdue University have created a Bass-powered medical implant that can utilize sound waves as an energy source. This new pressure sensitive microelectromechanical system has a vibrating cantilever that’s receptive to sound within the 200Hz to 500Hz frequency spectrum. By applying such smart technology into producing medical implants, you can then get some better appliances that can convert the low-frequency vibrations into energy, so as to power themselves automatically.

Cyborg Insects

20111129010

Researchers at the University of Michigan are currently busying with their cyborg insects that would be used in small spaces or nuclear disaster locations to assist people to collect information or do something else. These insects are all installed with sensors in their bodies, which are powered by the energy generated from their own wing motion. When fully-developed, these insects can help to investigate hazardous environments that are dangerous to humans, thus to find their application value.

Self-powered Safe Hump

20100108201

Whenever asked what road humps are designed for, we will refer to its important functions in reducing traffic accidents by requiring the drivers to slow down. But how do they work in the night? I mean, there’s only dim light on the road and the drivers couldn’t always notice the road humps from far away, and as a result these speed breakers won’t work that effective as we’ve expected.

Fortunately some designers have thought of that question earlier and they’ve teamed up with the ‘Self-powered Safe Hump’ which is equipped with LED bulbs and therefore gives off light in the dark. Moreover, all the energy needed by the system is converted from the mechanical energy generated when the car passes by. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Self-powering MP3 player

Since the built-in self-power module could generate power by the vibration of itself, this MP3 player does not need any outer power source.

In order to make power generating more interesting, it also comes with a circle which could fit your finger for rotating. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Self-powered Silicon nanowire

Researchers from Harvard University have developed a new silicon wire which looks much like a typical coaxial cable, but it’s around 100,000 times smaller. Plus, it could change light into juice. Reportedly, a single trand can output up to 200-picowatts.
