Solar Shareable Coverall

20120508013

Whenever we face earthquakes or other disasters, only a shelter cannot provide all the protections and things we need, of course this Shareable Coverall designed by Lee Jong Yun wouldn’t offer an overall protection either, however at least it can play far more roles than an ordinary blanket does. Featuring a zipping up design and built with solar panels and kinetic-energy converters, this garment can provide heat in cold climates in several different ways: you can either use it as a blanket or wear it as a coat, or you may even share it with others.

Transparent Energy-gathering OLED Car Sunroof

20120120013

As a new year has already come, a new development in the OLED technology is also expected to emerge. Here, it comes! Philips and BASF have recently collaborated to create a transparent OLED that also acts as a window when switched off. Combined with solar cells, the new OLED is also self-powered and energy-gathering, capable of generating electricity during the day and offering electricity in the night. So when you use it as the car roof in the day, the OLED will stay transparent, ensuring you a bright and open interior; while you switch it into an interior light during the night, however, the OLED then offers light with the energy it gathered in daytime.

Solar Powered panels are supposed to save animals and yourself.

2009120202

The panther is one of the most famous endangered animals in the world and has been long protected in Florida. However, from 1978 to 1994, about 20 panthers met their ends in car accidents; and in 2001, merely in 3 months, 7 panthers were killed by cars when they were running cross the road. Yeah there’s a crying need for more roads, but at the same time the wildlife needs to be preserved. And the Solar Powered panels are therefore designed to protect animals from road-kills. Built with infrared sensors, these panels will detect an animal or a car within the vicinity and then reduce possible dangers either by beaming out subtle blinking LED lights to inform the drivers or illuminating the sideways to warn the animals.

Solar Roadway

2009090101

The Solar Roadway is new replacement to current petroleum-based asphalt roads. It is constructed with a series of solar panels, each individual one comprising three parts (a road surface layer, an electronics layer and a base plate layer). Solar energy collected by these solar road panels, Scott Brusaw claimed, would meet a whole country’s basic electricity needs. And the first roadway (30cm thick, generating 7.6kwh of electricity per day) has been developed successfully, though at a high cost of up to 6900 dollars.

More information after the break.
