Sony’s Battery that Runs on Paper

The development of bio-batteries is now pushed to a new level, after electronics giant Sony announced that it has developed a battery powered by paper. The batteries were demonstrated at the Eco-Products exhibition in Tokyo, where they have successfully powered a mini fan to work. Sony’s actually utilizes cellulose enzymes to accomplish this technology: after breaking down the paper, the enzymes were left with sugar that had been created from the cellulose; and then the sugar is processed to create hydrogen ions and electrons. Theoretically, a piece of A4 paper is expected to produce about 18 watts of electricity, equivalent to the electricity power of six AA batteries. But currently the electricity power we get is fewer than that, which is also a drawback of this bio-battery.

Our ordinary life is constructed with extraordinary stories, and even a chair, a lamp can remind us of some sweet memories. Thus when I get some old things from my friends, I’d like to know his/her story with the furniture or gadgets. Shen Hao Cheng’s Sony Echo is rightly something to record the life story of a secondhand product. It allows the new owner to retrieve significant information conveniently, and may even make emotion produce resonance between people. Kinda like a message recorder that can be passed on from one people to another… Really interesting.

Till now, the International Funkausstellung Berlin 2011 has brought us many surprising designs and products, and today we’d like to add a new one to the list of innovative electronics. Sony’s Subtitle Glasses

Good news for people with hearing disability is that Sony UK is developing a pair of glasses to display subtitles though they’re actually on the screen. Fortunately with advanced technology, the subtitles on glasses won’t seem too pressing but feels like they’re together. The glasses are expected to be launched in UK next year, and we bet many people are looking forward to that just as we do.

Sony’s bio-battery generates electricity from leftover drinks.

At TOY Forum 2010, Sony’s bio-battery has drawn many people’s attention. It shows how batteries generate electricity from carbohydrates. Experiments indicate that grape juice is the most efficient drink for the bio-battery to run on and 3ml of Coke could have an electrical propeller keep working for about 1 hour. Looking like a headphone, the stylish product from Sony is actually a wearable MP3 player. With a magnetic device on the end of the earphones, the heart-shape player can be used in the same way as a headphone and you can easily wear it. You could control the player all through different buttons on the right earphone, for example, you can listen to a passage of music and play the whole music with a press to the enter key. When using the rapid-selection function, you may set audition duration from 4 seconds to 15 seconds, all depending on your needs.

This weird camera looks like a bug eye is develop from a research team of Sony and the University of Alabama. It could make the satellite picture better. It is claimed that this camera could image an area of up to 10 square kilometers from a 7.5 kilometer altitude and the precision of the picture is up to 50 centimeters per pixel from that height.
