Yes, there’re too many lamps on the market and each of them has a unique feature, so how could one designer make his/her lamp special enough to attract the consumers? Helene Steiner chose to build a camera on the lamp, enabling the users to take images of documents whenever they feel like to. It works in the same way as an ordinary tripod and can easily fold up for portability.

More doesn’t always mean better, and that is a most important law for the creative and energetic designers. And today we’d like to show you what the Austria based designer Thomas Feichtner has recently created: a table lamp that is constructed from merely a steel tube.

Possibly the so-called “Drawing Lamp” is the simplest lamp you’ve ever seen, but the simple shape doesn’t weaken its lighting function. With an LED built inside, the lamp can be “put down in a horizontal position with the illuminant slightly above the desk surface or in a vertical position with a maximum distance between the illuminant and the desk surface.” Wow, so the “Drawing Lamp” is not a lighting device that can be trifled with, right?

Natan Linder and his LuminAR make us love MIT more and love lamps more. The MIT student integrated a small scale digital projector with a robotic arm, creating an innovative interactive system that can help the users to check out images and emails directly on the table top. Apparently, Baita Bueno has drawn an inspiration from the classic toy ‘Bop Bags’ and endows the lamp with a similar shape. The most interesting part is the design of concrete ballast on the bottom enabling one to set the lamp into motions while using it as a light. It is made from injection molded ABS thermoplastic.

We’ve seen a lot of funny lamp concepts, but the Cosmonaut Lamp may be the least elegant one. It’s a lamp with a bulb on its head and looks like an astronaut ready to land on space. The wildest part about the lamp is that it uses fewer wires but mainly polymer clay instead. And inspired by the Cosmonaut Lamp, the designers may come up with more clay lamps that are shaped like a puppy, an E.T. or something else.

To show his respect to the inventor of the incandescent light bulbs, Thomas Edison, Roderik Vos named the lamp here as ‘Mr. Ed’. It is a lamp that comes with two books as its stands, and therefore looks quite different from usual ones. If it has not been for the energy-conservation, lamps are generally expected to bring more and more light to our world. However, Katherine Semenko doesn’t think so. A lamp, in his opinion, should give out enough light while not irritating the user’s eyes. And that’s why Katherine Semenko has come up with the interesting new lamp, which provides less lighting than usual ones.

And to show our respect to Jackson, designer Maleville has come up with a lamp by the name of “Criminal Desk Lamp” to duplicate Jackson’s dancing gestures. As a result, when turning on the lamp, you can simply tilt down the white hat while lift it up to turn the light off.
