The ‘Help Lock Doorknob’ by Haishan Deng is designed for ensuring an instant rescue if you stay in the room for too long a time. ‘Help Lock’ asks the users to pre-program a phone number and a time limit the first time you activate it. Once the time runs out, the doorknob will sound for 30 seconds to warn you to get out of the room. But if you don’t switch off the first alarm, the device will then call to the programmed number and open the door automatically for the help. Such a device could be quite ideal for those living with the disabled or elderly folks, who are easier to get hurt when bathing alone.

And to make sure that elderly people are also enjoying the convenience brought by the development of technology as the young people are doing, Sylvia Spencer has come up with the Perch Computer, which adopts the induction technology to store information. It features several keys (which individually store certain data) on the allotted slot and a touch screen. And to the elderly, they can directly drag or drop these keys to receive letters, surf the internet or do something else.

Different from those video game players encouraging physical exercises, WiiThink encourages “brain exercise”, which is believed in favor of preventing the elderly from Alzheimer and other developmental diseases. It is a headgear-shaped player and uses the Electroencephalography (EEG) technology to monitor brain waves. It also comes along with a concave earpiece that amplifies the sound inside ears, as well as a speaker promoter for the users to control the game with spoken commands.
